Martha Karua’s party, Narc Kenya, has announced its departure from the Azimio coalition
Narc Kenya has formally notified the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition of its decision to exit. In a letter to the coalition’s secretary general, Junet Mohammed, Narc Kenya’s acting secretary general, Asha Bashir, cited the current political climate as the reason for the departure, effective immediately.

Martha Karua, leader of Narc Kenya, confirmed the exit on social media, stating that the party’s position within Azimio is no longer sustainable. This move comes despite Karua’s recent comments suggesting a strong relationship with Azimio’s leader, Raila Odinga.
Karua emphasized the need for a robust opposition rather than participating in a government of national unity. She also supported Raila’s decision to potentially withdraw his candidacy for the African Union Commission, viewing it as a positive step for their cause.
The decision to leave comes after Narc Kenya, along with the Wiper party, was excluded from President William Ruto’s latest Cabinet nominations. Both parties have consistently refused to join Ruto’s proposed government of national unity, which followed protests against the Finance Bill, 2024.
