Man Drinks So Much That He Ends Up In a Coma
Doctors are warning of the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption after a 31-year-old man slipped into a coma following a night of heavy drinking.
The nightclub owner, who was otherwise healthy, consumed a shocking amount of alcohol, including an entire 500ml bottle of tequila and two shots of shochu, at a Japanese nightclub. He was rushed to hospital after losing consciousness.
Upon arrival, medical professionals determined he was in a deep coma, struggling to breathe due to fluid in his lungs. It’s believed the fluid was vomit that had entered his lungs while he was unconscious.
The patient was placed on a ventilator to support his breathing and prevent suffocation. His condition was so severe that he registered the lowest possible score on the Glasgow Coma Scale, indicating a complete lack of responsiveness.
Doctors at Juntendo Shizuoka Hospital emphasized the life-threatening risks associated with extreme alcohol consumption, particularly respiratory depression and the increased likelihood of aspiration.
Fortunately, the man regained consciousness two days later and was discharged the following day after his lung function improved.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of excessive alcohol intake.
