Koffi Olomide set for grand Kenyan tour

Lingala music icon Koffi Olomide, affectionately known as “Le Grand Mopao Mokonzi,” has officially announced his much-anticipated return to Kenya after a hiatus of several years. The legendary artist, renowned for his hit song “Mwinda,” will perform live at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on December 8-9, 2023.

In an enthusiastic message on social media, Olomide expressed his eagerness to reconnect with his Kenyan fans. “Mopao is coming to Kenya on the 8-9 December. It will be fire. I will be back in the country after so many years. I missed you; it’s been a long time. I will need to show you how deeply I love you,” he proclaimed.

Olomide extended a warm invitation to everyone, regardless of age or gender, to join him for the electrifying live show in Nairobi. “Mopao is returning to Kenya, I love them,” he concluded.

While Olomide has enjoyed immense popularity among Kenyans, a 2016 incident involving a female dancer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) briefly strained his relationship with the country. The incident led to his deportation by the Kenyan government.

Olomide defended his actions, claiming that he was protecting his troupe from a potential threat. However, in 2020, he publicly apologized to Kenyans, acknowledging his mistake and expressing gratitude for the government’s decision to allow him back into the country.

“I am sincerely sorry for what I did. To everybody who was affected by what I did, I apologize. I want to thank the Kenyan government for endorsing me. I missed Kenya so much, the country of my life,” he stated during his apology.

Known for his flamboyant style and captivating stage presence, Koffi Olomide rose to stardom in the late 1970s as a member of the trio “Princesse ya Synza,” alongside Papa Wemba and King Kester Emeneya. His return to Kenya is sure to be a momentous occasion for his loyal fans and music lovers alike.
