Khaligraph Explains Why He Refused To Perform In Political Campaigns (Video)
Kenya is on the brink of electing her 5th president; and there has been several methods employed by politicians in their campaigns, including hiring artists to endorse them. Diamond Platnumz recently attended Raila’s political rally and endorsed him.
According to reports, Diamond was paid $100,000 (Sh11.9million) for the 10-minute performance- this translates to about Sh1.2 million per minute.
Diamond’s attendance of course pulled a huge crowd- so did it rope in talks on whether it was professional to do the same.
The performance by the singer at the Azimio One Kenya coalition final rally at the Kasarani stadium sparked a conversation on why no Kenyan talent was chosen for the job.
Rapper Juliani stated there are several artists that could have had the job done noting that it was unnecessary to have a foreign artist grace the event.
“Diamond in Kasarani was distasteful. Any Kenya talent would have sufficed,” Juliani said.
Eric Omondi shared his sentiments and said Kenyan musicians were so boring and predictable that someone else had to be called to deliver and that no Kenyan artist was worthy of doing a better job.
Khaligraph Speaks
That being said, not every Kenyan artist would be interested in performing at a political rally. The likes of award winning rapper Khaligraph Jones. There’s no doubt Khaligraph is a big deal considering his huge fan base. And hiring him to a political rally would pull numbers. But the rapper is not interested in political endeavors. One of his reasons being it would ruin his musical career since some of his fans would pull-out because of his choice of political party- if he supports any.
