Khalif Kairo Takes on Government Authority Following Cease and Desist Order

Khalif Kairo has expressed frustration and disbelief following the government’s decision to halt his online promotion, which he described as a simple initiative to reward his followers. The popular motor vehicle dealer was ordered by the Betting and Licensing Control Board (BLCB) to stop the promotion, which offered a vehicle as a prize, citing a violation of the Betting, Lotteries, and Gaming Act.

In a letter from BLCB Chair Peter Mbugua, Kairo was informed that his promotion, which involved a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer, was unlawful for not following the proper process. The campaign, run in partnership with a digital pay company, required participants to meet certain conditions to win.

Kairo questioned why his effort to give back to his fans was met with such opposition, stating, “Even giving out free cars is a problem.” He criticized the government’s actions for hindering small businesses while leaving large corporations unchallenged.

Kairo also took aim at the Consumer Federation of Kenya, accusing it of being silent on major corporate issues but vocal in supporting the BLCB’s crackdown on his promotion.
