Kenya Airways Slams Mike Sonko Over April Fools’ Plane Crash Hoax

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has come under fire from Kenya Airways after falsely claiming that one of the airline’s planes had crashed.

Sonko took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to post, “A KQ plane has crashed,” sparking widespread concern among social media users. The alarming message quickly went viral, prompting frantic searches for more information.

However, it soon became clear that the claim was an April Fools’ prank, a fact Kenya Airways later confirmed.

In a strong response, the airline condemned the misinformation, emphasizing the seriousness of aviation safety.

“This is not a laughing matter! Spreading false information about aviation safety is highly irresponsible,” Kenya Airways posted, calling on Sonko to take down the misleading tweet.

Public Figures and April Fools’ Pranks

Sonko was among several celebrities and influencers who used April 1 to prank their followers. While some jokes were quickly recognized, others, like his, caused momentary panic.

Meanwhile, singer and actress Avril Nyambura also stirred controversy with her own April Fools’ prank. She posted what appeared to be a pregnancy announcement, complete with a photo of herself cradling a baby bump.

Fans flooded her comments with congratulatory messages, while others speculated about the identity of the father. However, hours later, Avril clarified that it was just a joke.

While some laughed it off, others criticized her for making light of pregnancy, calling it an insensitive prank. Despite the backlash, Avril defended the joke, reminding her audience that April Fools’ Day is meant for harmless fun.
