Kelvin Kiptum’s Funeral Relocated After Damage Of Original Venue

The funeral service for Kenyan marathon legend Kelvin Kiptum has been relocated from Chepsamo to Chepkorio showgrounds due to unforeseen circumstances. Strong winds heavily damaged the original venue, making it unsuitable for the ceremony.

Organizers released a statement citing adverse weather conditions as the primary reason for the change. Photos show extensive damage to tents and other structures at the Chepsamo site.

Despite the setback, preparations for Kiptum’s final farewell continue. The ceremony will proceed at the Chepkorio showgrounds, followed by internment at his farm in Naiberi.

Kiptum’s passing on February 11th sent shockwaves through the world of athletics. His legacy extends beyond his sporting achievements, and a significant turnout is expected, including dignitaries like President William Ruto and other prominent figures.

Chief pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed the findings of Kiptum’s postmortem examination, providing details about the injuries sustained in the accident. These findings contribute to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

“So what actually killed the late Kelvin was severe head injuries, which when I look at them, they look more like something caused by a motor vehicle accident,” he told the press.
