Jackie Matubia Opens Up On Why She’s Hesitant For Another White Wedding
Jackie Matubia, a Kenyan actress and mother of two, recently shared her experiences with divorce and its impact on her views on marriage. In an interview with Nairobi News, she shed light on the financial and emotional cost of her 2019 divorce from her first husband, Kennedy Njogu.
“The process of getting divorced actually cost me around Ksh300,000,” Matubia revealed. “This can vary depending on the complexity of the case, especially if there are shared assets or disagreements about child support.”
She described the legal process as lengthy and arduous, further hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic and virtual court proceedings. “It was all very traumatizing,” she shared.
This experience has instilled a hesitant stance towards a second white wedding. “Having gone through such a difficult divorce, the whole process of marriage in Kenya can seem daunting,” Matubia explained. “The back-and-forth, the paperwork, the expense – it can make you very cautious about getting that marriage certificate again.”
Her preference now leans towards cohabitation before potentially considering another formal union.
“Don’t rush,” she advises. “Be open and honest about your concerns, like I was throughout my relationship. Not everyone wants to follow the traditional path of a quick engagement and wedding.”
Matubia emphasizes the importance of understanding and respecting individual choices: “If someone wants to be engaged for 10 years before marriage, that’s okay. Some people need more time, and that’s perfectly valid. I myself would be comfortable living with someone for years before even thinking about a wedding.”
