Huddah Criticizes Kenyan Influencers for Quoting Rates in Dollars

Huddah Monroe has criticized Kenyan influencers who quote their local rate cards in U.S. dollars, calling the practice unnecessary and misleading.

Alhuda Njoroge, popularly known as Huddah, expressed frustration over the inconsistency in influencer rates, stating that it makes collaboration difficult.

“It’s insane how people have different rate cards for different clients—especially when it comes to me, Alhuda! I don’t use influencers, and I’m forever sold out! It’s all by God’s grace. We are always sold out! I rarely work with influencers because when it comes to Rich Beauty, the price triples. I conducted a survey with my team,” she said.

She went on to criticize influencers who charge in USD despite never having left Nairobi.

“And refrain from sending rate cards in USD when you have never set foot out of Nairobi. It doesn’t make you look expensive or extra. They all messaged the same influencers I was DMing.”

According to Huddah, her team discovered that some influencers quoted her double or triple their usual rates upon realizing she was the one inquiring about their services.

Similar Concerns Raised by Rachel Mbuki

Former Miss Kenya Rachel Mbuki has also called out Kenyan influencers for trying to compete with their U.S. counterparts.

A few weeks ago, Mbuki highlighted how some influencers allegedly resort to dishonest means to maintain a luxurious lifestyle.

“Kenyan influencers/celebrities are trying to compete with American ones in an economy that simply doesn’t support that lifestyle—yet. Even a cat can make half a million dollars a year here,” she wrote on Instagram.

She further pointed out that most Kenyan influencers flaunting wealth often struggle to sustain such a lifestyle.

“In Kenya, top influencers are lucky to make $1,000 a month. The result? People flexing wealth they don’t actually have—first-class flights, designer bags, extravagant dinners—only to beg, borrow, lie, and steal to keep up appearances. Time waits for no one. You can spend years setting fake standards or actually build wealth that lasts.”

What Should an Influencer Rate Card Include?

A professional influencer rate card typically outlines:

  • A brief description of the content creator and their services
  • Audience statistics, including follower count, demographics, engagement rate, and reach
  • Examples of deliverables
  • Data on past brand collaborations
  • Contact details, such as an email address

Huddah’s remarks have reignited the conversation on transparency and fair pricing in Kenya’s influencer industry.
