How Senator Gloria Orwoba Reacted to Pregnancy Shaming

She invited KTN Home for an exclusive home tour, proudly introducing herself as “the newest mummy in town” while holding her baby son.

Addressing the scrutiny female politicians face, she acknowledged the stereotype that they shouldn’t have children. Reflecting on motherhood, Gloria, who already has an older child, joked, “This is my second-born, but I sometimes pretend he’s my only one because people assume I don’t have another child.”

She expressed immense joy over welcoming her son, saying, “Motherhood brings a special glow. It’s fulfilling, and I really, really wanted this child. I’m so happy.”

At two months postpartum, she celebrated the milestone, thanking God for the journey.

When asked about her pregnancy experience, she described it as relatively smooth. “I worked until the very last day. It was fun to see how my body changed—the nose, everything—and also amusing to watch the public’s reactions.”

On the pregnancy shaming she faced, she remarked, “Apparently, legislators aren’t supposed to be pregnant. People were surprised, but honestly, it was a good pregnancy. I had a strong support system, and I’m grateful.”

Reflecting on her first pregnancy, she admitted she wasn’t fully prepared at the time. “I was young, which isn’t a bad thing—it gives you different experiences. But after that, I focused on my studies, career, and other goals. Seventeen years later, I realized I was approaching 40 and needed another baby.”

Determined to make it happen, she took proactive steps. “I worked on it—supplements, agreements, and, well… morning and evening efforts. When you’re older, it’s more challenging, so I tell people: have your kids while you’re young.”
