Harmonize emotionally breaks down at President Mkapa’s funeral, walks off stage mid-performance (Video)

As Tanzania and the East African community sent off the former President Benjamin Mkapa in a stately function, Harmonize who performed at the event, could not hold back his tears before emotionally breaking down.

Soon as he got on stage, the Bongo star hailed the late Mkapa with praises, for his notable work in the country’s infrastructure.

Talk of the new Parliament building in Dodoma, to Tanzania’s national stadium…Konde boy could not emphasize enough.

Wishing him well as he proceeded to the next life.

Nenda rafiki kipenzi, Mungu akulaze mahara pema, umetwacha bado mapema. Na kama sio juhudi zako, Mkapa baba, jengo jipya la bunge Dodoma, tungelipata wapi? …na uwanja wa taifa tungeupata wapi?

Harmonize held on, remembering just how much transformation the former President had brought in Tanzania and he wished he could thank him physically but it was too probably late.

The moment

Unfortunately, just as we got lost in the moment, Konde grew weak, he just went off, broke down, and decided to walk off stage.

Nenda salama jasiri, tutakumbuka sana, tunakupenda sana. Amen!

The memories, the unmatched leadership…it was too much to bear for the artist.

He was taken off stage as he tried to put himself together and right there, the music came to a close.

President Mkapa

The late President Mkapa was laid to rest at his home in Lupaso, Masasi in Mtwara region, after his untimely demise on Friday, July 24 while in hospital, following an undisclosed illness.

Aged 81, the fallen hero will be remembered as the third president of Tanzania, a two-term president who helped transform the nation to a free-market economy among many other reforms.

He became president following the country’s first multiparty election in 1995 up until 2005 when he left office. His death has seen him leave behind a widow Anna Maro and their children.
