Government to Expand Search For Shakahola Cult Survivors And Bodies To Tsavo East National Park
The Kenyan government announced on Sunday that it will expand its search for survivors and bodies of the Shakahola cult to Tsavo East National Park. The search has so far focused on Shakahola Forest and the Chakama Ranch, but the government believes that some cult members may have fled to the park to avoid detection.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said that the search will be conducted using ground and drone teams. He added that the government is also pursuing cult members who are believed to be hiding in the park.
The Shakahola cult is a religious group that is led by Paul Mackenzie Nthege. The group has been accused of starving its members and forcing them to work long hours. In April, the government discovered mass graves in Shakahola Forest that contained the bodies of cult members.
So far, the government has exhumed 239 bodies from the graves. The bodies have been taken to Malindi Sub-County Hospital for autopsies. The autopsies are expected to be completed in the coming days.
Kindiki said that the government is committed to finding all of the cult members and bringing them to justice. He added that the government is also working to provide support to the families of the victims.
The search for the Shakahola cult survivors and bodies is a complex and challenging operation. However, the government is determined to find all of the cult members and bring them to justice.
