Gas Cylinder Explosion In Eastleigh Kills One, Injures Three
A gas cylinder explosion in Eastleigh, Nairobi County on Monday, August 14, 2023, has left one woman dead and three others with serious injuries.
The explosion, which occurred at a residential building, was reportedly caused by a gas leak. The deceased, who has not been identified, was hit by an object while escaping from the scene of the explosion. The three injured victims were rushed to hospital with burns and other injuries.
The blast was so powerful that it shattered doors and windows and destroyed household goods several meters away. Residents rushed to the scene to help the victims, and most of the injured only suffered minor injuries.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said that preliminary investigations show that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. “For now, we suspect a gas leak. Someone might have lit a gas cylinder that had been left leaking causing the explosion,” he said.
The owner of the building has not yet been questioned by police. Bungei said that they are still investigating the incident and that more details will be released later.
The gas cylinder explosion is a reminder of the dangers of gas leaks. It is important to be aware of the signs of a gas leak and to take action if you suspect one. If you smell gas, do not light a match or turn on any electrical appliances. Instead, leave the area immediately and call the gas company or the fire department.
