Gachagua’s latest caution to Sakaja before the 2027 elections

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a caution to Nairobi Governor Sakaja, advising him to prioritize the interests of the Mount Kenya business community if he intends to secure Kikuyu votes in the 2027 general elections.

During the burial ceremony of the late Joseph Muiga, father to Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, popularly known as Major Donk, the Deputy President emphasized the importance of Sakaja maintaining a close relationship with the Nairobi Business Community (NBC).

Gachagua urged Sakaja to heed the concerns and safeguard the businesses of the Mount Kenya region, emphasizing that the support of these voters hinges on his commitment to their welfare.

He reminded Sakaja of the pivotal role played by the Mount Kenya electorate in his election and emphasized the need for continued collaboration and consultation on matters affecting the Nairobi business landscape.

The Deputy President stressed the straightforward nature of the Mount Kenya people, stating that they openly express their support or discontent. He urged Sakaja to align himself with their joys and sorrows, emphasizing the significance of his presence at community events such as Major Donk’s father’s funeral.

Gachagua warned against compromising the well-being of Mount Kenya businesses, citing it as a non-negotiable boundary for Sakaja. He emphasized that maintaining a favorable environment for these enterprises would ensure continued support from the region.

The Deputy President and Sakaja have previously clashed over issues concerning Mount Kenya’s interests, notably regarding the relocation of public service vehicle drop-off and pick-up points within Nairobi’s CBD.

Gachagua also claimed credit for rallying Mount Kenya voters to support Sakaja’s gubernatorial bid in the 2022 elections.
