Actress and content creator Foi Wambui is said to have been paid Sh600,000 for her role in an endorsement deal that has led to a court case. She is being sued for copyright infringement alongside Oppo Kenya and Aifluence Ltd, a marketing agency, for using the song “BETA” by singer Joseph Mutoriah Mwaura in an Oppo Reno 12 5G ad without his permission.

Mutoriah has filed a lawsuit, which will be heard in January 2024, accusing Oppo Kenya and Aifluence of improperly engaging with Wambui, who was contracted as the phone’s brand ambassador. A source familiar with the deal disclosed that Wambui received Sh600,000 for her endorsement.

The case stems from an Instagram video posted on August 31, 2024, featuring Wambui using the Oppo Reno 12 5G phone to make romantic memories and later delete photos of a former lover. The song “BETA” was used as the soundtrack, leading Mutoriah to send a demand letter to both Wambui and Oppo Kenya, seeking an apology for the unauthorized use of his music. As no apology was forthcoming, Mutoriah proceeded with legal action on November 7.
