Esther Passaris Explains Why She Voted For The Finance Bill 2023

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has defended her decision to vote in favor of the Finance Bill 2023, which includes a provision for a 1.5% housing levy on working Kenyans.

Passaris, who is a member of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), said she voted in favor of the bill because she believes it will ultimately benefit Kenyans.

“I have a dream of a Kenya where the image of slums remains in our history books and not in our motherland,” Passaris said. “For the millions of Kenyans living in the over 1,400 slums, I voted YES on the housing levy.”

Passaris said she is convinced that President William Ruto has a plan to build affordable houses for Kenyans.

“I believe that the government has a plan to use the housing levy to build affordable houses for Kenyans,” Passaris said. “This is a long-term investment that will benefit Kenyans for generations to come.”

Passaris’s decision to vote for the Finance Bill has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised her for her willingness to put the needs of Kenyans ahead of party politics, while others have criticized her for supporting a bill that they believe will disproportionately burden the poor.

Only time will tell whether Passaris’s decision will ultimately benefit Kenyans. However, her vote is a clear indication that she is committed to improving the lives of the people she represents.
