Embarambamba Meets With MCSK Chairman Ezekiel Mutua
Gospel musician Christopher Mosioma, known by his stage name “Embarambamba,” has been a source of both controversy and reconciliation recently. His energetic and unconventional performances are well-known, but his latest music video, “Niko Uchi,” attracted criticism for its explicit content and vulgarity.
Despite previous threats of suspension from the Musicians Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) due to his “indecent songs,” MCSK Chairman Ezekiel Mutua recently announced a change of heart. Mutua shared photos on social media depicting a meeting held at his office with Embarambamba, who was accompanied by his lawyer and a Member of Parliament. In a particularly striking image, Mutua rests his hand on Embarambamba’s head, suggesting a gesture of blessing and a potential path towards resolving the conflict.
“Everyone deserves a second chance. Embarambamba needs help. Just as Saul turned to Paul, so can Embarambamba. Today, at the behest of the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Silvanus Osoro, and Embarambamba’s legal team led by Wakili Danstan Omari, we have embarked on the journey to help Embarambamba reform. I hope to God that this guy’s energy can be turned into something constructive.”
This development comes after Embarambamba challenged the Kenya Film Classification Board’s (KFCB) decision to ban his music videos and impose a significant fine of KSh 6.4 million. In a letter to the KFCB, Embarambamba argued that these actions were discriminatory and excessively punitive.
