Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Enter India “As Soon as Humanly Possible”
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has said that his electric car company Tesla will enter India “as soon as humanly possible” and make “significant investments” in the country’s economy.
Musk made the announcement following a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York on Tuesday. He said that he was a “fan” of Modi and that he was impressed by the prime minister’s commitment to clean energy.
“India is a huge market with great potential,” Musk said. “We are working on the best way to enter the market and make our products available to Indian consumers.”
Musk also said that he was “looking forward to bringing Starlink to India.” Starlink is a satellite-based internet service that Tesla is developing.
Modi welcomed Musk’s plans and said that the two sides could announce something in the “not-too-distant future.” He also said that he was eager to see Tesla’s products in India.
Musk’s announcement is a major boost for India’s clean energy ambitions. The country has set a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Tesla’s entry into the Indian market could help to accelerate the country’s transition to electric vehicles.
Modi’s visit to the United States is seen as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the two countries. He is also expected to discuss trade and investment opportunities.
