Drug Addiction Charity Director Caught Driving Under the Influence
Eliza Loftus, a 26-year-old university graduate from Middlewich, Cheshire, has been banned from driving for 40 months after being caught drink driving for the third time in just two years. The director of a drug and alcohol charity crashed her car into a tree while nearly three times the legal alcohol limit and was subsequently arrested.
Loftus, who had previously been convicted of drink driving in April 2022 and driving under the influence of cannabis in May 2022, was caught driving while intoxicated on April 7, 2024. She had been out with friends but decided to drive home after an argument.
At her court hearing, Loftus admitted to drink driving and explained that she had been struggling with mental health issues, including depression and anxiety. She is now seeking counseling from the very charity she leads.
In addition to her driving ban, Loftus was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work. The incident has raised questions about the appropriateness of her role as director of a drug and alcohol charity, given her own history of substance abuse and driving offenses.
