Dida’s Family Appeals to the Kenya Government to Help Secure His Release From Prison
Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former Kenyan presidential candidate, is serving a seven-year prison sentence in the United States for stalking and intimidation.
Dida, who traveled to the US in 2019 to pursue his education, married an American woman. However, their relationship soured, leading to a restraining order against him.
Dida’s family alleges that he unknowingly violated the restraining order by visiting a mosque in a restricted area. They have appealed to the Kenyan government for help in securing his release.
“We are praying for him and trying to find ways to visit him, get another lawyer, and assist him. As a family, our resources are limited, and we need government intervention,” said a family member.
Dida was convicted of two charges in 2022 and sentenced to a total of nine years in prison. He has been incarcerated at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center since November 2022 and is expected to be released in April 2029
