Details Surrounding the Death of Kirinyaga University ‘Billionaire’ Akoko Sirkal

Police are investigating the mysterious death of Kirinyaga University student Sospeter Onyango Osungo, popularly known as “Billionaire Akoko.” The 23-year-old, renowned for his lavish lifestyle and unexplained wealth, was fatally attacked by a mob outside a Kibera bar on Sunday night.

Witnesses report that the violence erupted following comments Akoko made to revelers after offering to buy drinks. The Fourth-Year Architectural student from Gem, Siaya County, suffered seven stab wounds to his stomach and back. Two friends who were with him were also injured in the attack, allegedly led by bodaboda riders.

Police have recorded statements from five witnesses, including Akoko’s friends and mother, who is devastated by his death. No arrests have been made, but authorities are pursuing the bodaboda riders involved, with murder charges pending.

On the night of the incident, Akoko reportedly arrived in Kibera in an Audi Q3, accompanied by a man and a woman. After buying drinks for patrons at one bar, he decided to attend a neighboring venue hosting a popular Ohangla musician. A commotion broke out as a crowd followed him, escalating into violence when the bodaboda riders claimed Akoko had insulted and disrespected them. Witnesses allege he worsened the situation by threatening to shoot them. Branded a thief, he was brutally attacked with pangas and knives.

The female friend and another male companion were also severely injured but were rescued and taken to a hospital. Their driver fled the scene in Akoko’s car, which has since been handed over to police as evidence. Akoko’s body was moved to Chiromo Morgue for an autopsy.

His death has drawn comparisons to that of another young “billionaire,” Dennis Bright, who also led a flashy lifestyle and claimed to have made his wealth through Forex Trading. Both incidents have sparked warnings about the dangers of peer pressure and the pursuit of quick riches.

Social media users have linked the tragedies to disturbing allegations of exploitative activities targeting Gen Z youth in affluent areas like Kilimani and Kileleshwa, with the hashtag #KileleshwaEstate25 gaining traction.
