Desperate Kenyans caught up in Finland scholarship scam threaten to strip naked
Police were called to control angry parents who were protesting against a Finland education scam in Uasin Gishu County. The parents had paid between Sh1.2 million and Sh3.5 million to the county government for their children to study in Finland, but only 200 students were able to travel. The remaining 300 parents are demanding a refund.
The Finland overseas education program was initiated during former governor Jackson Mandago’s tenure. The parents want Mandago to come out and explain what happened.
Current governor Jonathan Bii exonerated the county from the matter and said the program was handled by a private trust with the county only acting as a guarantor. Bii suspended three top county officials who were involved and the matter is also under probe by the EACC and the DCI.
The parents are advised to follow these steps to successfully apply for Finnish scholarships:
- Do your research. Before you apply for any scholarship, it is important to do your research and make sure that the scholarship is legitimate. There are many scams out there, so it is important to be careful.
- Meet the eligibility requirements. Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements, so make sure that you meet them before you apply.
- Write a strong application. Your application should be well-written and should highlight your strengths and why you are a good fit for the scholarship.
- Follow up. After you submit your application, be sure to follow up with the scholarship provider to check on the status of your application.
The parents in Uasin Gishu are hoping that their children will be able to study in Finland one day. By following these steps, they can increase their chances of being awarded a scholarship.
