Death Toll Of Flood Victims Rises To 291, Situation Remains Far From Over
Kenya faces a worsening humanitarian crisis as flood-related deaths climb to 291. Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura reported two additional fatalities in the past 24 hours.
The relentless floods have displaced a staggering number of people: over 278,000 individuals from 55,631 households, along with another 412,763 people from 82,552 households directly impacted.
The situation is far from over. The Kenya Meteorological Department predicts continued rainfall in key areas, including Nairobi and the Central Highlands.

Search and Rescue Ongoing
While some areas face dryness, others grapple with the devastating effects of heavy rain. Search and rescue missions are underway in Mathare North, Nairobi, following a building collapse, and in Kiambu County after a massive landslide tragically claimed lives.
Government Response
The government is actively responding to the crisis. Over 3,000 flood victims are being housed in 187 camps across 25 counties. Additionally, 65,493 people evacuated from the Nairobi River area have been integrated into host communities.

Damage Assessment
The floods have caused significant damage, impacting 64 health facilities across 12 counties and destroying an estimated 168,000 acres of land. Health concerns are rising, with reported cases of cholera and dysentery.

The Kenyan government, along with multi-agency teams including the military and Red Cross, is conducting risk assessments and coordinating relief efforts. Their focus remains on locating missing individuals, ensuring the safety of those affected, and delivering vital aid.
