David Wonder: “I Was Never Friends with Bahati and I Don’t Owe Him Anything”

Former EMB Records artist David Wonder recently opened up about his strained relationship with gospel star Bahati, his former boss at the record label. In a candid interview with *Nairobi News*, the *Ndogo Ndogo* singer shared that their connection was strictly professional, not personal.

Reflecting on a difficult time in 2022 when he fell ill, Wonder noted that Bahati never checked in on him—a response he attributes to the business-only nature of their relationship. “I always speak honestly, and the truth is, Bahati was never my friend. He was my boss, and I respect him as such. We don’t owe each other anything or expect anything from each other,” Wonder said.

Despite their rocky parting, Wonder clarified that he held no expectation of help from Bahati during his illness, understanding that they hadn’t parted on friendly terms. “I didn’t expect any support from him, given that we didn’t end things amicably,” he acknowledged.

Wonder also shared his appreciation for the support he received from other industry colleagues, notably Mr. Seed, with whom he maintains a close friendship. “Mr. Seed was there for me, unlike Bahati. Even before I got sick, Bahati never reached out, so I wasn’t expecting anything from him,” Wonder explained.

In 2019, Bahati had publicly accused both Mr. Seed and David Wonder of owing him more than Sh6 million, claiming they falsely accused him after their fallout and were spreading stories to gain attention.
