Creative Phill Opens Up About Struggling with Depression Due to Gay Rumors

Celebrity make-up artist Philip Mureithi, known as Creative Phill, has clarified that he is not gay, despite widespread assumptions due to his work in the beauty industry. His boldness in wearing makeup has fueled speculation, particularly on social media, linking him to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Creative Phill, now a leading make-up artist with a large social media following, is celebrated for his creative makeup content, often featuring himself as the model. Addressing the rumors, he stated, “I am not gay. But I am comfortable and confident wearing makeup in public. If people want to judge me, that’s their choice. I enjoy the confusion now and just go with it.”

Phill’s passion for makeup began after witnessing a male artist getting makeup done at a video shoot for rapper King Kaka. He was particularly intrigued by the artist’s Sh7,000 fee. Inspired, he pursued makeup artistry, later receiving training from Makeup by Rose and partnering with actress Dorea Chege to open his first makeup studio in Kimathi House.

His journey into makeup, however, wasn’t without challenges. After posting his first video wearing makeup, Phill found himself trending, especially in Tanzania, where he was subjected to online bullying and labeled as gay. The backlash led him to fall into depression, and he briefly quit the makeup industry. He even got a tattoo symbolizing the pain caused by the online harassment.
