Comedian Njugush’s Matatu Business Affected by Sacco Suspension
Comedian Timothy “Njugush” Kimani’s two matatus have been temporarily grounded following the suspension of Super Metro Sacco’s operating license by the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA).
Njugush and his wife, Celestine Ndinda, recently expanded their matatu business, naming their vehicles “Tugi” (after their firstborn) and “Toria” (after their second son). These matatus operate under the Super Metro Sacco, serving the Nairobi-Kitengela route.
The NTSA suspended Super Metro Sacco’s license due to numerous traffic violations, including:
15 vehicles operating with expired permits.
109 drivers exceeding speed limits.
The suspension is immediate and will remain in effect until the Sacco fully complies with the 2014 Public Service Vehicle Regulations. The NTSA has also issued a warning to the public against boarding Super Metro vehicles.
The NTSA has mandated that Super Metro Sacco must:
Submit its entire fleet for speed limiter inspection.
Produce 42 drivers accused of multiple traffic violations.
Provide signed contracts for all drivers and staff.
Super Metro operates 294 minibuses in Nairobi and surrounding areas.
Njugush previously stated that he entered the matatu industry to diversify his investments. He explained,
I bought a new minibus after selling my Toyota Prado TX car and then took a loan to finance the purchase. It is about seizing opportunities that others have laid the groundwork for.
