Chebet Ronoh Speaks Out on Beauty Privilege and the Pressure of Appearances
Chebet Ronoh has opened up about the powerful role physical appearance plays in shaping how people are perceived and treated in today’s world.
In a recent TikTok live session, the media personality addressed the growing influence of beauty privilege, claiming that looks are increasingly taking precedence over qualifications in professional spaces.
“A lot of companies are hiring based on appearance, not competence,” Ronoh said, calling out what she sees as a culture obsessed with aesthetics. “The world is fake—everything is about appearances.”
She emphasized how unrealistic beauty standards, especially for women, have pushed many to pursue risky cosmetic enhancements in the name of fitting in.
Ronoh also touched on the pressure men face, explaining that society often evaluates them not by their character, but by their financial status.
Drawing from her own life, she shared that her encounters with models and public figures had revealed just how deeply society is driven by image.
“People fall for what they see,” she observed. “Media shows the glam, but hides the real struggles.”
She went on to challenge the idealized belief that love is always about inner beauty:
“It’s not always about the heart—it’s often about the packaging.”
A Journey Beyond the Surface
Ronoh made headlines in April 2023 after revealing a dramatic physical transformation, part of a long-term body positivity and fitness journey she began documenting in 2021.
While her transformation stunned many, she admitted that shedding weight didn’t bring the emotional peace she once hoped for.
“I thought losing weight and earning more money would make me happy and heal me,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“But that wasn’t the case. I had what I wanted and still found myself repeating the same emotional patterns.”
She described healing as an ongoing process—one that requires choosing self-love even during setbacks.
“Real growth means confronting your pain over and over until it no longer controls you.”
Ronoh’s reflections have resonated widely, sparking deeper conversations around beauty standards, emotional health, and the importance of inner healing in a world often focused on surface-level success.
