Despite not being entirely ready for another pregnancy, Carrol embraced it when it happened, especially after the loss. She explained that her daughter, Keilah, is a “rainbow baby,” a term used for a child born after a previous loss.

“It wasn’t planned. My pregnancy wasn’t planned, but I feel like on the other side it was. When it happened, it didn’t shock me. It was a relief because I had lost one before… I was like, at least nimeweza ku replace kale kenye nilipoteza (I was able to replace the one I lost),” she revealed.

A “rainbow baby” represents hope after a family experiences miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death. The term symbolizes the joy that follows a dark and traumatic time.

Carrol also touched on the emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies a rainbow baby, noting that parents may experience a mix of anxiety, grief, guilt, and excitement.
