Barnes Urges Maguire to Leave Man Utd for Newcastle
Former Liverpool player John Barnes has urged England defender Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United this summer and join Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
Barnes believes that Maguire would be a good fit for Newcastle, who are looking to build a new team under manager Eddie Howe. He also pointed out that England manager Gareth Southgate still rates Maguire highly, despite his recent struggles at Old Trafford.
“I think it would be a good move for Harry Maguire to go to Newcastle,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets. “He’s a good defender, but he’s not getting the support he needs at Manchester United. Newcastle are a team on the up, and they could give him the platform to show what he can do.”
Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for a world-record fee of £80 million. He was named club captain in 2020, but his form has declined in recent months. He was dropped to the bench by new manager Erik ten Hag for several games this season.
Despite his struggles at club level, Maguire remains a key player for England. He has won 48 caps for his country and was a member of the squad that reached the Euro 2020 final.
It remains to be seen whether Maguire will leave Manchester United this summer. However, Barnes’ comments suggest that he could be open to a move to Newcastle.
