Bahati to Critics: “I’m Unbothered by Your Opinions; I’m Focused on Succeeding”

Bahati Kioko initially rose to fame as a gospel artist, with his breakout hit “Mama” marking his entry into stardom. Over time, however, Bahati shifted his focus and began attracting controversy, which led to criticism from those questioning his departure from gospel music.

In recent years, Bahati has increasingly released secular music and even ventured into Mugiithi, a genre he explored briefly to support himself. Despite the criticism, Bahati remains unfazed and is driven by his own goals.

“I’m always clear about what I want, regardless of what others say. There will always be comments whether you’re doing well or not, but I’m focused on succeeding. My background plays a role in this too; people may not fully understand my past,” Bahati shared in a conversation with rapper CMB Prezzo.

He also discussed his short-lived political career, reflecting on his 2022 run for a parliamentary seat in Mathare. Although he didn’t win, he considers the experience a personal victory.

“Just aiming to become an MP was an achievement. I grew up with tough circumstances, and my first hustle was football. Having the chance to campaign, even briefly, was a win in itself. It motivates me to work harder and stay focused,” Bahati explained.
