Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala praises his wife for believing in his dreams

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has praised his wife for believing in his dreams, even when he could not support his family financially.

In an interview with YouTuber Trudy Kitui, Omanyala said that his wife, Wanjugu Mwende, met him in 2016 at a track event. She was a student at the time, while he was still in college.

“She played hard to get, but I finally got her after seven months,” Omanyala said. “That’s when the journey started.”

Omanyala said that his wife was supportive of his dream of becoming a professional athlete, even when he was not making much money.

“She came through big time,” he said. “She was working at Mama Lucy hospital, and she would give me her salary to help support the family.”

Omanyala said that he was also contributing to the household expenses, but his income was limited.

“I was only getting Sh5,000 if I won a race,” he said. “Of course, I was bringing something, but it wasn’t much.”

Omanyala said that his wife’s support was essential to his success.

“She believed in me, she believed in the dreams I had, and we helped each other carry that dream until we reached where we are today,” he said.

Omanyala also spoke about the challenges of dealing with unwanted attention from women since becoming a star athlete.

“I don’t text women who I know are not serious,” he said. “I will ignore their messages for six months. Most of the time, I just archive their chats. My social media managers are the ones who go through my messages and respond to the important ones.”

Omanyala said that he is grateful for his wife’s support and that he is committed to their marriage.

“I know that I am a public figure, but I am also a husband and a father,” he said. “I am committed to my wife and my family, and I will never do anything to jeopardize that.”
