Sausage Dog Kills One Month Old Baby
A newborn baby has tragically died after being attacked by an ‘aggressive’ dachshund, despite her parents’ attempts to have the dog euthanized.
The dachshund reportedly killed the infant by silently strangling her in her crib while her parents were asleep.
The incident occurred in Seversk, Siberia, Russia, just one month after the family welcomed their second child.
On March 10th, the dog clamped its jaws around the baby’s neck, killing her without any barking or growling. The parents discovered the tragedy the following morning.
According to a family member, the parents had observed the dog becoming more aggressive after the arrival of their second child.
Concerned about the dog’s behavior, they tried to have it euthanized, but veterinarians refused because the dog was deemed healthy.
Fearing a potential attack, the parents had taken to keeping the dog on a leash at night.
However, on the night of the incident, the father forgot to secure the dog.
Speaking to local media, a family member said: “The baby’s mother blames herself. But it was a tragic accident. It was the middle of the night. The girl was sleeping, and everyone else too, the dog strangled her very quietly.”
The family member also described the dog’s history, stating: “This dachshund that lived with them, an eight-year-old dog. It behaved aggressively towards adult owners. And when the second child was born in the family in February, the aggression only increased. The parents understood the danger, decided on euthanasia. And they brought the dog to several clinics, but they were refused, because the animal was physically absolutely healthy.”
The dog has now been euthanized.
The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Tomsk Region released a statement saying, “The daughter’s body was discovered in the morning by her mother.”
Dachshunds, despite their appearance, were originally bred as hunting dogs to track and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death and have opened a criminal case for “causing death by negligence.” The investigation remains ongoing.
