KTN Loses Another Top Anchor as Talent Exodus Continues

KTN has suffered yet another high-profile departure, with Swahili news anchor Sycilia Wakesho Mathuva officially joining NTV. Her exit comes less than two months after Ken Mijungu and Eric Latiff left the Standard Group-owned station, marking the third major resignation in under eight weeks.

Wakesho’s Excitement About Her New Role

Confirming her move, Wakesho shared a heartfelt social media post:
“Glad to be joining Nation Media Group as a Broadcast Journalist. To more engagements, my people. Tukutane hewani.”

In an NTV promo video, she poetically introduced her arrival:
“Ajaye bila hodi huondoka pasi kwaheri, basi naipiga hodi, hodi hodi ya aheri.”
Loosely translated, she acknowledges her transition with humility and optimism.

A Notable Career at KTN

During her tenure at KTN, Wakesho played a key role in Swahili news programming. She anchored Yanayojiri and Jarida, delving into gender, education, and politics. Additionally, she hosted Mbiu Wikendi and KTN Leo Wikendi, further solidifying her reputation as a seasoned journalist.

Warm Welcome at NTV

Her move to NTV has been well received, especially by her former KTN colleague Lofty Matambo, now a key figure in the Swahili news team. Expressing her enthusiasm, Wakesho stated:
“Kikosi kikuu kikiongozwa na Lofty Matambo kimenipokea vyema kabisa. Twende kazi!”

Media Shake-Ups and KTN’s Transformation

Wakesho’s departure adds to the growing list of journalists leaving KTN, highlighting increasing competition among media houses for top talent.

Meanwhile, in December 2024, KTN announced the merger of KTN Home and KTN News into a single unified brand—KTN. The move aimed to streamline operations and enhance viewer engagement, combining entertainment from KTN Home with news content from KTN News.

This restructuring reflects the shifting media landscape, where digital transformation and evolving viewer habits are reshaping traditional television broadcasting.
