Khalif Kairo, has come to the defense of his ex-girlfriend, Maria Wavinya, following online allegations that she abandoned him during his legal troubles. Some netizens went as far as labeling her a gold digger, accusing her of being with him for financial gain and exposure.

Speaking in an interview on the YouTube channel Every Other Time with Erick, Kairo dismissed these claims, revealing that Wavinya was actually one of the first people to support him during his arrest.

“Maria was the first person to come to the station and even called my mom,” he stated.

The backlash against Wavinya stemmed from online speculation that she had not been present during Kairo’s court appearances, leading to accusations that she was only in the relationship for the benefits and disappeared when trouble arose.

Kairo, a car dealer and pilot, has faced fraud charges related to his business, with his first arrest occurring in December 2024. He has since been in and out of court, and the legal battles have taken a toll on his brand, eventually leading to the closure of his offices.

“We have tried everything in our ability to resolve these issues amicably and ensure deliveries, but the negative media publicity and constant police involvement have put us in deeper waters, severely affecting our ability to operate. All our offices are currently closed,” Kairo shared.

He even enrolled her in flying lessons. However, their high-profile romance attracted scrutiny, with some questioning Wavinya’s intentions.

In response, Wavinya addressed the criticism in an interview with Mungai Eve, emphasizing that she was accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle long before meeting Kairo.

“I have been living this kind of lifestyle even before I met Kairo,” she clarified, dismissing assumptions that material things easily impressed her.

Speculation about their breakup intensified after Wavinya deleted their photos from Instagram. Kairo later confirmed their split on X, stating, “We broke up on good terms, and it has absolutely nothing to do with these cases.”
