Popular Kenyan comedian Henry Desagu has been struggling with depression and alcoholism, leading to his hospitalization at Mathari Mental Hospital, his family has disclosed.
According to his relatives, Desagu’s battle with mental health and addiction has significantly affected his career, causing a decline in the comedy skits that once made him a household name.
Concerned leaders, celebrities, and well-wishers have now stepped in to support his treatment and rehabilitation.

Fundraiser Launched for Desagu’s Treatment
Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia has taken the lead in organizing a fundraiser to cover Desagu’s medical expenses and rehabilitation. In a statement, Kururia emphasized the importance of standing with Desagu during this challenging time.
“We cannot sit back and watch as Henry Desagu, who has brought joy to many through his comedy, is brought down by depression and alcoholism. We are committed to praying for his recovery, ensuring he receives quality medical care, and bringing back the vibrant Desagu we all love.”
Kururia also acknowledged the efforts of businessman Elijah Njoroge, also known as Mofarm JM, for offering support and informing him of the comedian’s deteriorating condition.
“I appreciate Elijah Njoroge (Mofarm JM) for standing with him and for explaining how critical his situation has become, leading to his admission at Mathari Hospital.”
Contributions Towards His Recovery
Kururia has mobilized friends and supporters to raise Ksh1 million to facilitate Desagu’s treatment. The fundraiser has already received generous contributions from various leaders and business figures.

Kururia has urged more Kenyans to contribute to Desagu’s recovery, stressing the need to provide him with proper care. However, he has advised supporters to channel their donations through Karangu Muraya while he coordinates contributions from his close friends.
“Let me organize a few friends to raise Ksh1 million for Desagu’s medical treatment, rehabilitation, and related expenses.”
As the fundraiser progresses, Desagu’s fans and fellow comedians have rallied behind him, expressing their hope for his recovery and return to comedy.
