Reasons Behind Director Trevor’s Decision to Take Over Eve Mungai’s YouTube Channel

On February 19, 2024, Director Trevor, a video director and social media expert, announced significant changes to his and Mungai Eve’s respective brands following their breakup. Trevor revealed plans to rebrand the “Mungai Eve” YouTube channel, which had nearly 800,000 subscribers, into “Kenya Online Media,” stating that Eve’s involvement with the platform was no longer required. Additionally, he announced his decision to take control of the “Insta Fame” channel, which had 105,000 subscribers.

The news shocked many, as Trevor had previously assured during an interview that, even if their relationship ended, he would not reclaim the channels. He had emphasized that they were their primary source of income and that Eve had become the face of the platform.

However, the couple publicly announced their breakup in early 2024 after nearly six years together, and Trevor ultimately went back on his word. This move, viewed as petty by many online, raised questions about his motivation.

“I had said I wouldn’t take the channel if we ever broke up because that wasn’t my intention,” Trevor explained. However, he cited Eve’s behavior during their separation as the reason he changed his stance. He accused her of being disrespectful and uncooperative, recounting incidents where she allegedly made him wait outside the house for money to facilitate his move and insisted on inspecting his belongings before allowing him to leave.

Trevor also accused Eve of financial manipulation, claiming she made him beg for his share of their resources.

He elaborated, “I was ready for a fresh start without drama. I decided to leave the house and its belongings to her and accepted that we built her mother a house in the village. But her antics pushed me to the edge.”

Trevor disclosed that the money Eve sent him was insufficient to cover his moving expenses, including costs for curtains (Sh. 50,000 to Sh. 70,000), rent (Sh. 65,000), and movers (Sh. 10,000). “She knew the amount wasn’t enough, yet she still sent so little,” he added.

Feeling betrayed after sacrificing for their shared life—leaving behind their Nairobi home and the upcountry house they built together—Trevor decided to reclaim the YouTube channels he had founded and nurtured as a form of retaliation.
