According to him, he attended an exclusive party solo because the woman he was seeing at the time chose to stay behind, feeling unwell. Initially, Rotimi had planned to make a brief appearance at the party and return to her, but everything changed when he met Vanessa.
“We went to a private party, and I actually had a girl there with me. She wasn’t feeling well and decided to stay in. I told her I’d just pop by the party for 10 minutes and come back,” Rotimi recounted. “When I got there, my ‘Power’ castmates were around, but I thought, ‘I see these people every day, let me do my own thing.’”
It was at this point that he noticed Vanessa, seated by the pool table, and they struck up a conversation that lasted for hours. Rotimi described the connection as almost instant, despite having been introduced to her briefly at a previous event without taking much notice.

“The most pivotal thing I did was being upfront with her,” Rotimi revealed. “She told me she wanted to get to know me better, and I admitted to her that I had someone there with me at the time. I said, ‘Let me handle this first, and then we can meet when there’s no distraction.’ I didn’t want to play her or give her a reason to think all men are the same. She remembered that.”
After resolving the situation, Vanessa flew back to the U.S. from Tanzania to see him again, and their relationship blossomed from there. Rotimi summed it up by saying they’ve been inseparable ever since.
