Dr. King’ori Explains His Departure from NMG and the Retention of His Show’s Rights

Comedian Felix Omondi, widely known as Dr. King’ori, has shared his thoughts for the first time regarding his departure from Nation Media Group (NMG) after a decade.

In an appearance on the Mic Cheque Podcast, he also discussed why he retained the rights to his show, ‘The Wicked Edition,’ which now continues on his YouTube channel.

Reflecting on his exit, Dr. King’ori described it as a well-timed choice, revealing that he had always hoped to stay with NMG for ten years, which turned out to be the case.

“I chose to leave, and honestly, I believe it was a prayer answered. When I joined Nation, Kazungu (Captain Otoyo) mentioned he had been there for ten years, and I prayed to God to allow me to stay that long. When I decided to leave, I realized it had indeed been ten years,” King’ori explained during the podcast.

While acknowledging the support he received at NMG, he noted that a shift in energy among some colleagues played a role in his decision to leave.

He observed a rise in negative attitudes that began to impact the quality of his work.

“We received genuine support at Nation, but I felt a negative vibe from some who had once supported us significantly. They began to whisper toxic sentiments that reflected back on the show,” he stated.

To avoid letting these distractions affect his production, King’ori determined it was best to part ways with NMG.

“I don’t like being distracted, so instead of compromising the quality of our work, I decided to quit,” he added, emphasizing that he holds no ill feelings toward those involved, recognizing that they might have been influenced by external factors.

Dr. King’ori also explained his choice to keep the rights to ‘The Wicked Edition,’ attributing it to how the show had been undervalued by some within the company.

“I believe this was partly due to the show being underestimated by certain individuals at the company. In the media industry, if they wish to undermine you, they certainly can,” he remarked.

Despite the perception that ‘The Wicked Edition’ would conclude with its last airing on NTV on January 12, 2024, King’ori clarified that the decision to carry on with the show independently was not influenced by NMG’s editorial changes.
