Ichung’wah Discloses the Root of His Feud With Gachagua
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has openly discussed the tension between himself and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. In an interview with Spice FM, Ichung’wah explained that the rift originated from Gachagua’s push for the “One Man, One Shilling, One Vote” initiative.
Ichung’wah criticized the Deputy President for addressing these issues publicly rather than leveraging his influence within the government to promote policy changes. He emphasized that Gachagua, with his position and access to top officials, could have advanced the revenue-sharing agenda through formal government structures such as cabinet committees and legislative processes.

“We were told it was time for One Man, One Vote, One Shilling, but why use a public platform to air these grievances? The Deputy President could have easily raised these issues within the government,” Ichung’wah stated.
He also questioned Gachagua’s inconsistent support for government policies, contrasting his actions with those of President William Ruto, who, as Deputy President, would publicly back government stances even when it was politically risky.
Ichung’wah revealed that when Gachagua was chosen as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) running mate, regional leaders advised him to soften his combative style. “Leaders from the region urged him to be less abrasive, but his confrontational nature has alienated many,” Ichung’wah noted.

The two have reportedly clashed, with Gachagua accusing Ichung’wah of undermining efforts to unite the Mt. Kenya region, while Ichung’wah blames Gachagua for promoting tribal politics, which has deepened their divide.
