Carol Sonie, Mulamwah’s ex, opens up about battling depression following their painful breakup
Social media influencer Carol Muthoni, widely known as Sonie, recently opened up about how social media bullying nearly drove her to a mental breakdown.
In an interview with Oga Obinna, Sonie, the mother of one and ex-partner of comedian Mulamwah, spoke candidly about the difficult period following their public breakup two years ago. She revealed that the breakup came shortly after she had given birth, leaving her particularly vulnerable to the overwhelming barrage of online harassment and negative comments, which nearly pushed her to the edge.

“I had to step back and undergo therapy,” Sonie shared. “I was losing it, and the counseling helped me understand why I was going through such a difficult time. That’s why I decided to take a break.”
Sonie credits comedian Nasra Yusuf for stepping in during her darkest moments, providing the support she desperately needed. “Nasra was there for me when I was on the brink of losing my mind. I would wake up to find myself trending, clueless about what I had done to deserve it,” she explained.
Sonie also shared how the online abuse didn’t just affect her but took a toll on her family as well. “My depression stemmed from the relentless online harassment and humiliation. It got into my head and seriously affected my mental health,” she said.
