The real reason behind why the ‘Over 25’ group decided to part ways

Julia ‘Jules’ Gaitho, the founder of the once-popular YouTube channel “Over 25,” has finally revealed the reasons behind the channel’s closure. In May 2023, content creators Jules, Ivy, Lornzie, and Shikie announced that they were shutting down the channel after seven years of content creation. During its run, the channel had garnered 157,000 subscribers and was recognized by YouTube as one of the platform’s top-performing channels.

More than a year later, Jules has opened up about what led to the channel’s demise. She explained that poor communication on her part and the absence of formal agreements among the members contributed to the fallout. As the channel evolved into a business, attracting sponsors and partners, these issues became more significant.

“When you work with friends, conflicts are inevitable, whether it’s differences in opinions or approaches. I wish I had known how to communicate my boundaries better. Back then, I lacked the skills to resolve conflicts with friends, so I often avoided them, which only caused bigger problems later,” Jules shared in a recent YouTube interview.

She also pointed out the lack of proper documentation as a major issue. “I wish we had established a contract from the start, one that clearly defined each person’s role and responsibilities. We often clashed over things like finances, which clients to work with, and what we should offer them because I tended to give too much. If we had set roles, such as a Creative Director, Finance, and Business Development, things might have been smoother, but we didn’t know at the time.”

Jules believes that the main challenge was mixing friendship with business. “We knew how to be friends, but we didn’t know how to work together,” she added.

When the group announced their split, there were mixed reactions online, with rumors circulating about a love triangle involving some members of “Over 25” and an outsider. However, Jules, Ivy, Lornzie, and Shikie issued a joint statement denying these claims, calling them “unpleasant and fabricated narratives.”
