Vybz Kartel Explains Why His Face and Stomach are Swollen

Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel is focusing on his health and wellness following his release from prison. The artist, known for his distinctive voice and controversial lyrics, shared his health update during an interview with FOX 5.

Kartel revealed that he’s working closely with his doctor on a new health regimen to manage an undisclosed condition. While he expressed gratitude for his freedom, he admitted to feeling under the weather. “Healthwise, you know I’m working on my health right now, but the feeling of just being free is just an amazing feeling. I could be better, but I’m super upbeat. I have appointments with my doctor on Monday so that I can have regular meetings with her, and she can keep track of me in real-time,” he said.

Kartel’s release came after a court ruled against a retrial in the murder case of Clive “Lizard” Williams. The case, which had garnered significant media attention, ended without a body ever being found.

Since his release, fans have noticed a marked change in Kartel’s appearance. His face appeared swollen, his eyes bulged, and he looked frail and tired. These changes were later attributed to Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid gland.

Earlier this year, FOX 5 News obtained a sworn medical affidavit confirming Kartel’s diagnosis of Graves’ disease and a worsening heart condition. The medical documents revealed that the singer’s health had deteriorated to a point where surgery was necessary to prevent a fatal outcome.

The news of Kartel’s health struggles has sparked an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers. Many have taken to social media to express their sympathies and wish him a speedy recovery.

Graves’ disease is a condition that affects a number of individuals, including several high-profile celebrities such as Wendy Williams, Sia, and Missy Elliott. Kartel’s public battle with the disease has brought attention to the condition and its potential impact on those affected.
