Online Activists Share MPs Phone Numbers Online
Netizens across social media platforms have united in a concerted effort, sharing contact details of their respective MPs in a bid to dissuade them from supporting the finance bill scheduled for passage on June 14th, 2024.
Among the shared numbers are those belonging to President Ruto and Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, who expressed frustration earlier today over the influx of calls and messages from Kenyans who obtained his contact information online.
Salasya took to Instagram to voice his exasperation, stating,
“Who has shared my number on x everybody across the nation is calling my number, texting me, and WhatsApping me. I can’t sleep; the phone is vibrating throughout. They say I reject the finance bill tomorrow and they are sending me one shilling via M-Pesa to confirm if it’s me. We are not voting tomorrow.”
The motive behind this widespread sharing of contact details is to encourage constituents to reach out to their MPs and urge them to oppose the Finance Bill 2024.
Reports indicate that thousands of contacts have been made public on various platforms, exposing not only the President and his deputy but also governors, women representatives, and numerous Members of Parliament.
Prominent figures such as Amerix and others have been actively advocating against the passage of the Finance Bill 2024, fearing its potential to burden the common citizen with excessive taxation, effectively rendering them slaves to government levies.
