Kiambu County commander Michael Muchiri confirmed the arrests, stating that a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has been seized. “Today, we arrested a third suspect who is a serving officer, and a firearm alleged to have been used in the fatal shooting was also confiscated,” Muchiri stated.

He further mentioned that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the investigation, with homicide detectives leading the efforts. “Two individuals were presented in court, where investigators requested more time to conclude the murder inquiry. The third suspect will also be brought before the court,” Muchiri elaborated.

Following an application by the investigating officer Peter Kingawi, a Kiambu court granted a 10-day extension for the investigation, although the officer had initially sought 20 days.

Njomo was reportedly struck by a stray bullet while standing across the street and speaking on the phone near the nightclub. A commotion erupted outside the club, the cause of which remains unclear, leading to a gunshot and chaos as individuals scattered for safety.

David Njomo, the family spokesperson, expressed the family’s devastation, describing the incident as unfortunate since the victim was merely a bystander when the fatal shot struck him. “We viewed the CCTV footage captured by the club, which showed our relative speaking on the phone a short distance from the establishment. Suddenly, a confrontation erupted, and an individual wielding a firearm was observed discharging it. The next moment, our relative was seen falling,” David Njomo recounted.

He emphasized the family’s demand for justice, noting that the perpetrator is identifiable in the footage. “We urge the police to thoroughly investigate every aspect of this case. Our relative deserves justice as he was innocent,” he emphasized.

Described as cheerful, amiable, and sociable, Njomo is survived by his pregnant wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old son. The family has initiated funeral arrangements while awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
