Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs responds to viral video showing him attacking ex-girlfriend Cassie
American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has apologized to his fans following the release of a 2016 hotel surveillance video that allegedly shows him physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
The footage, obtained by CNN, was filmed at a Los Angeles hotel on March 5, 2016. In the video, a man identified by CNN as Combs is seen chasing Ventura down a hallway, grabbing her by the back of the neck, pushing her to the ground, and kicking her as she lies on the floor. He then drags her across the floor by her sweatshirt.

The video’s release sparked widespread outrage on the internet, with many condemning the apparent harassment.
In response, Diddy posted a video on Instagram on Sunday, May 19, acknowledging the footage and apologizing for his actions. “It’s so hard to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you have to. I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses,” he said. “My behavior in the video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now. I have sought professional help,” he continued, adding that he has attended therapy and rehab. “I had to ask God for mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to being a better person every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry,” he concluded.

Cassie Ventura’s lawyers have criticized Diddy’s apology. Meredith Firetog, a partner at Wigdor LLP, stated, “Combs’ latest statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt. When Cassie and several other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only forced to ‘apologize’ when his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”
Diddy is currently facing several lawsuits, including one filed by Cassie in November 2023.
