Tragedy strikes Nakuru-Eldoret highway as 15 perish in early morning crash.
A brutal head-on collision between a North Ways Shuttle matatu and a Classic Kings of Congo bus ripped through the quiet dawn on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, claiming the lives of 15 innocent souls. All passengers aboard the 14-seater matatu, comprising eight adults and seven children (five girls and two boys), perished in the 2:45 am tragedy near Twin Bridge.
While 38 fortunate individuals escaped the wreckage unscathed, grief hangs heavy as the total death toll from road accidents in the past two days surpasses 20. The injured were swiftly transported to Molo Hospital by Mau Summit police, with ten bus passengers suffering minor injuries and three sustaining serious ones.
“It was another devastating morning,” acknowledged Tom Odero, Rift Valley Chief of Police, confirming an investigation into the crash. He urged all drivers to prioritize caution to prevent such tragedies, lamenting the additional four lives lost in separate incidents on Monday.
One fatal crash involved a matatu colliding with a stalled lorry on the Isinya-Kitengela Road, while another on the Narok-Bomet highway claimed the life of a matatu driver in a head-on collision with a Mitsubishi Fuso truck.
Over the weekend, three more lives were lost in separate incidents in Kericho and Nyamira, underscoring the urgent need for increased vigilance and improved road safety measures.
