Gospel Music Mourns Vibrant Tenor Eric Moyo, Lost Too Soon

The sudden death of Eric Moyo, renowned singer and beloved member of Joyous Celebration, has plunged the gospel music community into profound grief. Just 42 years old, Moyo tragically succumbed to a brain bleed after collapsing on stage during a performance in South Africa on December 14th.

Witnesses described the heart-wrenching scene as Moyo, mid-song, fell to the ground, leaving the audience stunned. Though medical assistance arrived quickly, their efforts were unable to save him. The cause of his collapse and subsequent brain bleed remains under investigation.

Jabu Hlongwane, co-founder of Joyous Celebration, spoke of their immense loss: “This is a shock beyond words. Eric was a vibrant talent who brought a unique Zimbabwean flavor to our music.”

Moyo’s journey with the choir began in 2014, discovered by another founding member, Lindelani Mkhize. As a tenor vocalist, Moyo’s electrifying performances and original songs were a source of joy for countless listeners. His statement attire and captivating stage presence made him an unforgettable figure in the genre.

Moyo’s musical achievements extended beyond Joyous Celebration. He soared to fame as the first winner of Idols East Africa, and earlier showcased his talent on A-Academy in 2006.
