“Big” Ted Kwaka discusses his divorce
Kenya’s consul general in Los Angeles, Thomas Kwaka, also referred to as Big Ted, has shared personal details about his failed marriage to his divorced wife, Cynthia Akoth. In a recent interview, Ted discussed parenthood and the challenges of getting married again with the Iko Nini podcast.
Big Ted revealed information about his two teenage daughters, whom he would want keep private. As a devoted “girl dad,” he conveyed the happiness and satisfaction he gets from being a parent.
Even though he is well-known, he honors his daughters’ desire to stay unknown, saying:
“Mbaya cover by Nimewapiga. You won’t be able to locate them even if you Google them (I have entirely protected them). These kids have me as their slave. I’m unable to refuse them. They are aware of this. “What do you need? No, no, no, I’ll give it to you today,” I said.
Thinking back to his last marriage, Big Ted explained that it ended because of a change in priorities rather than problems at work or with money.
“Both she and I were headed in opposite directions. Nijaribu hizo mbili zishikane na sikutake time. (I didn’t spend the time connecting the two of us.) Then, at that moment, we were in separate locations. In spite of the difficulties, he stays in regular contact with his girls and keeps putting their welfare first.”
Speaking about getting married again, Big Ted laughed and said he was married to five important women at the moment. Though he kept a humorous outlook on the situation, he acknowledged the difficulties of managing three relationships in his life: father, husband, and baby father.
“Hao madame, you are extremely special. In truth, I am saa hii because I remarried. My mistake was marrying five different ladies. By the way, hio ni ngori. What makes you pick what kind of attitude you have, machozi tu brathe?(I have so much love for all those women in my life. I have five ladies in my life because I remarried. Should they all choose to act rudely toward you, you will really cry tears.)
Big Ted emphasized that divorce is not final and that it is important to live and learn.
“Divorce is not final, but I’d rather you go back to your parents with your suitcase than go back to your parents in a suitcase,” he said as he ended the conversation.
Big Ted moved to the US and is now serving as the Consul General of Los Angeles, thus he is visiting the nation for a vacation.
