Julius Korir to face trial for assaulting estranged wife Evelyn Koech

A Nairobi court has found that there is enough evidence for Permanent Secretary for Cabinet Affairs Julius Korir to stand trial for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife Evelyn Koech.

The court directed the case to be mentioned on August 25 for a defense hearing.

The prosecution’s case is based on the testimony of Dr Stephanie Wakaba, who treated Koech at Nairobi Hospital after the alleged assault. Wakaba said that Koech had bruises and linear marks on her back, butt, and arm, and that she appeared to be in pain.

Koech herself testified that Korir had beaten her on several occasions, including once when she was three days away from giving birth. She said that she was lucky not to have lost the baby.

Korir’s lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, has denied the allegations, saying that they are “baseless” and “fabricated.” He has said that he will vigorously defend his client.

The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on August 25.
