Sandra Dacha Laments Rising Cost Of Electricity

Popular actress and content creator Sandra Dacha has expressed her frustration over the rising cost of electricity in Kenya. In a recent social media post, Dacha said that she was “deeply troubled” by the soaring prices, which have made it difficult for her to afford to power her home.

Dacha recalled a time not long ago when purchasing tokens worth Sh1,000 would give her 80 units of electricity. However, she said that the number of units has been gradually declining in recent years, and that she now only gets 29 units for the same amount of money.

“I remember back in 2016 when I used to buy tokens from Kenya Power 1000bob used to give me 80 units! Then it started going down pole pole. It just dropped to 29 units that only lasts 4 days,” Dacha lamented.

Dacha’s concerns are shared by many Kenyans, who have been struggling to cope with the rising cost of living. In June 2023, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) approved a tariff increase for Kenya Power, which resulted in higher electricity prices for consumers across the country.

The increase in electricity prices has been attributed to a number of factors, including the rising cost of fuel, the depreciation of the Kenyan shilling, and the need to finance Kenya Power’s investments in new generation capacity.

Dacha’s post has sparked a debate on social media, with many people expressing their anger and frustration at the rising cost of electricity. Some people have called on the government to intervene and regulate the prices of electricity, while others have suggested that Kenyans should find ways to reduce their energy consumption.

The rising cost of electricity is a major challenge for Kenyans, and it is one that is likely to continue in the coming years. It is important for Kenyans to be aware of the factors that are driving up electricity prices, and to find ways to reduce their energy consumption.
